Introducing the Bland to Bold Framework™

I’m wicked excited to introduce you to the Bland to Bold Framework, a diagnostic that helps you assess where your content falls on a spectrum from bland to bold by measuring the presence of four critical elements.

Woman throwing four fingers in the air

There are four elements of bold content:

  1. Originality: the distinctiveness of your perspective and brand personality

  2. Novelty: the “wow factor” of your formats and visuals

  3. Proof: the credibility of your claims and solution

  4. Depth: the sophistication of your ideas and body of work

All four elements must be present in high quantities if you have a snowball’s chance in hell of cutting through the noise, winning mindshare, and building trust with your ideal audience. (This is especially true if you sell a complex, high-ticket solution to large organizations. More on that later.)

Each element has its own spectrum from bland to bold.

When you plot your content on all four spectrums (using my content assessment), you get a clear picture of which elements exist in high quantities and which elements exist in low quantities.

Aaaaand if you connect the dots from top to bottom, you get a shape that correlates with one of 10 content profiles.

Here's an example:

Above, you’re looking at "The Professor" — a profile that’s high in proof and depth, but lower in originality and very low in novelty.

If I were to work with a Professor brand, I'd prescribe a different plan of action than I would for a brand with a content profile that's low in proof and depth but high in originality and novelty.

Can you see how using a framework like this can help steer us in the right direction?

Hope so.

Next time we’ll talk about element one: originality.

Xo,
Erin
